Time-Saving Tools (1): MindMeister

by Louellen Coker on September 12, 2009

Summer has come and gone much too quickly! Over the summer, I discovered several fabulous time-saving tools that let us spend more time working on rather than managing our projects. They’ve made such an impact on our daily operations,  we thought we’d share them with you.

Over the next few posts, I’ll tell you about our favorites:

  • MindMeister
  • DimDim
  • QuickFile for Outlook

We work with folks from all over (clients, contractors, and vendors) and we were looking for a tool that provided the capability to collaborate during brainstorm sessions. Once we discovered MindMeister, problem solved.

MindMeister brings the concept of mind mapping to the Web, using its facilities for real-time collaboration to enable truly global brainstorming sessions. Users can create, manage, and share mind maps online and access them anytime, from anywhere. In brainstorming mode, fellow MindMeisters globally (or just in different rooms) can simultaneously work on the same mind map and see each other’s changes as they happen.

Once you’ve set up your account, it’s very easy to use. I think it took us about five minutes to orient ourselves. We’re able to save our mind map as an image or export it to a Word document. We enjoy this for real-time collaboration as it cuts down on time spent on follow-up e-mails and project management. Here is the mind map for our online portfolio.
