In the April 2010 edition of the Washington State Bar News, our own Louellen Coker was quoted in an article regarding the importance of attorneys using social media marketing to connect with their future clients. As the web has become more important in terms of advertising and marketing, attorneys have had to slowly change their conceptions of successful advertising from simple ads in the Yellow Pages to pay-per-click ads with search engines and reaching out to potential clients with social media.
As Louellen said in the article, “To be competitive with other practitioners, attorneys will need to adopt more of a conversational tone with potential clients. While traditional advertising methods such as interruption marketing (billboards, pay-per-click, commercials, etc.) and static web pages will continue to serve a role in marketing, lawyers will need to extend their marketing efforts to be more personal.”
This is not to say that attorneys should abandon all traditional forms of marketing, just add social media to their marketing efforts to reach out to possible clients and appear more personable than a classified ad in the Yellow Pages could ever convey.
And the same goes for other businesses as well. Your customers and potential customers want to be able to contact you and ask questions without having to make an appointment or traveling to your office. If you make them feel comfortable and attended to online, then the chances are greater that they will make that appointment or stop by your office to check it out.
There is a variety of different social media networks out there, and not all are conducive for each individual business. For example, LinkedIn may be great for attorneys, but it doesn’t offer much for gym owners. Content Solutions is rife with social media experts, and we’d be ecstatic to help you set up and maintain the best social media marketing campaign for your unique business.
